How to use @Mentions in Google Messages
Using @mentions is straightforward:
- Open a group chat in google Messages.
- Type “@” in the message field.
- Begin typing the name of the person you want to mention. Google Messages will suggest contacts from the group.
- Select the correct contact from the list.
- Finish typing your message and send.
The mentioned user will receive a notification indicating they were specifically addressed in the message.
Availability
As of November 13, 2025, the @mentions feature is rolling out to Google Messages users. the rollout is gradual, so not all users will have access promptly.
