Google.org has announced a $5 million grant to support the expansion of Obrii, Ukraine’s national AI job platform, according to a report from The Keyword. This funding aims to accelerate Ukraine’s adoption of artificial intelligence technologies by enhancing workforce readiness and digital infrastructure. The investment follows years of sustained support for Ukraine’s tech sector, which has positioned the country as a growing hub for AI innovation despite ongoing geopolitical challenges.

The grant, disclosed on June 25, 2026, marks one of the largest single investments in Ukraine’s AI ecosystem by a U.S.-based organization. Obrii, launched in 2023, is designed to connect Ukrainian professionals with AI-related job opportunities while providing training programs to bridge skills gaps. Google.org’s contribution will focus on scaling the platform’s reach, improving its algorithmic matching capabilities, and expanding access to AI education resources.

“Obrii represents a vital tool for Ukraine’s digital transformation,” said a Google.org spokesperson in a statement. “This investment underscores our commitment to empowering communities through technology, even in the face of adversity.” The spokesperson did not provide specific details about how the funds will be allocated or the timeline for implementation.

Ukraine’s tech sector has seen rapid growth since the early 2010s, driven by a strong pool of software developers, engineering talent, and a government that has prioritized digital infrastructure. The country’s AI industry, however, has faced challenges including limited private-sector funding and brain drain due to war-related displacement. Obrii’s creation was part of a broader initiative led by Ukrainian tech leaders and international partners to strengthen domestic AI capabilities.

The platform’s initial phase focused on developing a database of AI job openings and training modules for skills such as machine learning, data analysis, and natural language processing. By 2025, Obrii had registered over 100,000 users, according to internal reports cited by The Keyword. The Google.org grant is expected to expand this reach, with plans to integrate AI-driven career counseling tools and partnerships with global tech firms.

Ukrainian officials have welcomed the funding as a boost to the country’s economic resilience. “This support will help us build a future where Ukrainian talent can compete on the global stage,”
