Google Pixel 10a: AI-Powered Camera Phone at $499 | Specs & Release Date

Google has officially introduced the Pixel 10a, bringing many of its flagship-level AI tools and a best-in-class camera system to a more accessible price point of US$499. The phone is available for pre-order now, with shipments beginning March 5.

Positioned as the newest member of the Pixel family, the 10a blends Google’s signature software capabilities with a refreshed design and upgraded durability – all while remaining budget-friendly. The device will be available in four colors: Lavender, Berry, Fog, and Obsidian.

A sleeker, more sustainable design

The Pixel 10a debuts a refined, completely flat back with a seamlessly blended camera bar, making it easier to slide into a pocket and rest flush on any surface. Google emphasizes a commitment to sustainability in the phone’s construction. The device features a 100% recycled aluminum frame and an 81% recycled plastic back cover. Notably, this is the first time the A-series incorporates recycled cobalt, copper, gold, and tungsten into its build.

The phone sports a 6.3-inch Actua display that’s 11% brighter than the Pixel 9a’s screen, and is protected by upgraded Corning® Gorilla® Glass 7i for improved scratch and drop resistance. It also carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Built to last — in more ways than one

Under the hood, the Pixel 10a runs on Google’s custom Tensor G4 chip, paired with 8GB of RAM, enabling full access to Gemini – Google’s AI assistant. This integration brings a suite of AI-powered features to a more affordable price point.

Battery life is rated for over 30 hours on a single charge, extending to up to 120 hours with the “Extreme Battery Saver” mode enabled. Fast charging and wireless charging are also supported. Google is committing to seven years of OS, security, and Pixel Drop updates, positioning the 10a as a long-term investment.

For safety, the Pixel 10a includes features like Car Crash Detection and Crisis Alerts, alongside theft protection and regular security updates.

A camera that punches above its weight

The Pixel 10a features a dual rear camera setup: a 48MP main camera and a 13MP ultrawide lens. It also supports Macro Focus and Night Sight for detailed close-ups and low-light photography. Google claims this is the best camera on a phone under $500.

For the first time on an A-series device, Camera Coach utilizes Gemini models to offer step-by-step guidance on lighting and composition. The “Auto Best Take” feature helps ensure everyone looks their best in group shots with a single shutter press, automatically selecting the optimal frame.

On the editing front, users can leverage Google Photos’ AI tools to remove objects, change backgrounds, and more with simple prompts. Video capabilities include 4K recording at 30fps and optical plus electronic image stabilization, along with tools like Audio Magic Eraser and Cinematic Pan.

Powered by Gemini

The Pixel 10a provides full access to Gemini, including Gemini Live for natural, back-and-forth conversations. Users can also utilize Circle to Search to quickly look up anything on screen, or rely on Call Screen and Hold For Me to filter spam and wait on hold.

The device launches with Android 16 and Material 3 Expressive UI, bringing refreshed app visuals, wallpaper effects, and a modernized notification shade.

Pricing and availability

The Pixel 10a will be available online and in-stores via the Google Store, and through retail partners including Singtel, Shopee, Metapod, iShopChangi, COURTS, Lazada, and Amazon SG, as well as Best Denki and Harvey Norman, starting March 5.

It comes in 128GB and 256GB storage options. Google is also launching matching Pixel 10a cases in all four colors, alongside Pixel Buds 2a in new Berry and Fog colorways.
