Google Pixel 10a: Modest Upgrade, $499 Price – Digital Trends

by Lisa Park - Tech Editor

Google has officially unveiled the Pixel 10a, its latest budget-friendly smartphone, arriving on . The device represents a modest evolution from last year’s Pixel 9a, focusing on refinement rather than radical overhaul. Priced at $499, the Pixel 10a maintains the same starting price as its predecessor, a notable achievement given the current trend of rising tech costs.

The most immediately visible change is the redesigned rear camera module. Google has eliminated the plastic ring surrounding the lenses, resulting in a flush, more seamless integration with the back panel. A subtle reduction in bezel size around the display also contributes to a slightly more premium aesthetic. These changes, while incremental, represent a move towards a cleaner, more modern design language.

The Pixel 10a retains the 6.3-inch pOLED display with a refresh rate of 120Hz, but with an increased peak brightness of 3,000 nits, up from the 9a’s 2,700 nits. Display durability is also improved, utilizing Gorilla Glass 7i instead of the older Gorilla Glass 3. Charging speeds receive a modest bump to 30W wired charging and 10W wireless charging.

Familiar Hardware Under the Hood

Internally, the Pixel 10a largely mirrors its predecessor. It continues to be powered by the Google Tensor G4 chipset, paired with 8GB of RAM. Storage options remain at 128GB and 256GB. The 5,100mAh battery and the camera system – consisting of a 48MP primary sensor, a 13MP ultrawide lens, and a 13MP front-facing camera – are unchanged.

The Pixel 10a maintains IP68 dust and water resistance, includes a fingerprint scanner, and supports Wi-Fi 6E and NFC. Google has added support for Satellite SOS connectivity. The device will ship with Android 16 and is guaranteed to receive seven years of OS and security updates.

Pre-orders for the Pixel 10a begin today, with general availability starting on . The phone will be available in Obsidian, Porcelain, Iris, and Peony color options. The decision to maintain the same price point despite limited hardware upgrades suggests Google is prioritizing affordability in a challenging economic climate for consumer electronics.
