Google Rolls Out Pixel Watch Blood Pressure and Insulin Resistance Tracking

Owners of the Pixel Watch 3, Pixel Watch 4, and Pixel Watch 5 can set up the new suite of features in the Google Health app starting this week. Access to these features is free for users of those three specific watch models.

The blood pressure trends feature operates passively by measuring pulse and motion patterns over the course of a month, requiring at least five consecutive days of data in a week. Google designed the tool to let users detect persistent higher cardiovascular trends early, without needing a traditional blood cuff or manual calibration. By evaluating multi-week physiological metrics, the insulin resistance trends monitor shifts in metabolic health directly without needing any blood draw. This metabolic tracking needs a minimum of seven days of data in a month and utilizes Google’s largest sensor foundational model, which was pre-trained using over 1 trillion minutes of data from 5 million opted-in users. Users will find both categories of trend insights inside the Google Health app on the first day of every month.

Sleep Breathing Quality and European Emergency Tools

In addition to cardiovascular and metabolic trends, the update introduces sleep breathing quality metrics to track overnight breathing changes. Each morning, users can view how much time was spent optimally breathing, supported by a monthly report that identifies longer-term patterns. Wearers with the fourth and fifth-generation Pixel Watch in European countries will have access to Google's Breathing Emergency Detection tool, which automatically contacts emergency services if the device observes a severe drop in blood oxygen. Google Health Premium subscribers using the Fitbit Air will also gain access to the insulin resistance and blood pressure trends later this year.
