Google to Invest Billions in New Texas & Minnesota Data Centers

Google is significantly expanding its data center infrastructure in the United States, announcing new facilities in Texas and Minnesota as part of a massive capital expenditure plan. The company intends to invest upwards of $185 billion in capital expenditures throughout 2026, a substantial commitment reflecting the growing demand for cloud services and the computational power required for advancements in artificial intelligence.

Texas and Minnesota: Strategic Locations for Expansion

The new data centers will be located in Wilbarger County, Texas, and Pine Island, Minnesota. The Texas facility will utilize an “advanced air-cooling” system, a move that suggests Google is prioritizing energy efficiency and sustainability in its infrastructure design. The company is partnering with AES Corp. To provide energy management services and power for the Texas data center, aiming to minimize its impact on the local power grid and maintain energy affordability.

In Minnesota, Google has secured a power supply agreement with Xcel Energy to power the Pine Island data center. This agreement, announced on February 24, 2026, underscores Google’s commitment to sourcing renewable energy for its operations. Details of the agreement weren’t immediately available, but it highlights the increasing importance of reliable and sustainable power sources for large-scale data centers.

A Broader Investment in Infrastructure

This expansion isn’t an isolated event. Google previously announced a $40 billion investment in three new data centers in Texas in November 2025. The combined investment across these projects demonstrates a clear strategy to bolster its cloud computing capabilities and meet the escalating demands of its customers.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai stated during the Q4 2025 financial earnings report that the company’s investments in AI and infrastructure are already driving revenue growth. We’re seeing our AI investments and infrastructure drive revenue and growth across the board, Pichai said. To meet customer demand and capitalize on the growing opportunities we have ahead of us, our 2026 CapEx investments are anticipated to be in the range of $175 to $185 billion, he added.

The Growing Demand for Data Centers

The surge in demand for data center capacity is being fueled by several factors. The proliferation of cloud computing services, the increasing adoption of artificial intelligence, and the growing volume of data generated by connected devices all contribute to the need for more powerful and efficient data centers.
