Google has officially released a major update to its Pixel VIPs widget as part of the monthly Pixel Drop, transforming the previously sparse feature into a much more functional home screen tool according to reporting by Droid Life. The rollout brings a redesigned interface, larger mini cards, quick action shortcuts, and unread notification dots to eligible devices.
Pixel VIPs Widget Redesign and Layout Options
The updated Pixel VIPs widget maintains support for up to 8 different contacts, though the refreshed visual experience performs best at a 4-contact limit. Users opting for a 3×2 or 4×2 grid layout will see enlarged mini cards for each designated contact alongside direct shortcuts for making calls and sending messages. Google noted that the layout lets users stay connected to VIP contacts with a single tap straight from the home screen. The interface also includes a bottom floating menu that allows people to switch effortlessly between different VIP contacts. To catch messages without opening an app, new glanceable notification badges appear as small dots when a user has a missed call or unread message from a specific person. Activating these dots requires turning on the specific setting to see messages on the widget.
