Gorillaz have announced thier upcoming album, *The Mountain*, set for release on March 20, 2024. The album follows 2023’s *Cracker Island* and features collaborations wiht several artists, including Idles, Sparks, and the late D12 rapper Proof.
The latest single, “The God of Lying,” features vocals from Idles frontman Joe Talbot. Damon Albarn wrote the track with Talbot, and recording took place across London, Devon, England, and Mumbai, India, incorporating the talents of bansuri player Ajay Prasanna and percussionist Viraj acharya. According to a statement from Gorillaz’s fictional frontman, 2D, “Doubt is very tiring but questioning things is really good for you.”
Other previously released singles from *The Mountain* include “The Happy Dictator,” a collaboration with Sparks, and “The Manifesto,” featuring Argentinian rapper Trueno and proof, who passed away in 2006.
Gorillaz’s musical Evolution
Gorillaz, created in 1998 by musician Damon Albarn and artist Jamie Hewlett, have consistently blended genres, including option rock, hip-hop, electronica, and pop. Their self-titled debut album spawned the hit single “Clint Eastwood” and established their unique visual and musical identity. *The Mountain* continues this tradition of experimentation and collaboration.
The band’s previous album, *Cracker Island*, received generally positive reviews from critics, praising its eclectic sound and Albarn’s songwriting. The album featured collaborations with Thundercat, Bad Bunny, and Stevie Nicks.

Idles: The British post-punk band Idles are known for their energetic live performances and politically charged lyrics. Their albums *Joy as an act of Resistance* and *Crawler* have garnered critical acclaim.
Sparks: The American duo Sparks,consisting of brothers Ron and Russell Mael,have a long and influential career spanning several decades. They are known for their art-pop sound and theatrical performances.
Proof: DeShaun Holton, known professionally as proof, was an American rapper and a member of D12. He was tragically killed in 2006.His inclusion on *The Mountain* is a posthumous collaboration.
