GORONTALO, Indonesia (April 18, 2025) — The Gorontalo Provincial Health Office (Dinkes) is intensifying its HIV case detection efforts, aiming to provide treatment and curb transmission within the community.
Recognition for Program Dedication
Anang S. Otoluwa, head of the Health Service, acknowledged the dedication of program managers, presenting awards for their work in increasing HIV case identification and ensuring access to treatment. He emphasized that early detection and appropriate treatment are crucial for both improving the quality of life for people with HIV (odhiv) and preventing further spread of the virus.
Challenges in Treatment Initiation
Anang noted the difficulties inherent in initiating treatment and therapy for HIV/AIDS patients, citing various obstacles encountered. Despite these challenges, Gorontalo Province has achieved a notable milestone.
Gorontalo Province reported a 99% viral load suppression rate in 2024,surpassing the Ministry of Health’s national target of 95%. Viral load suppression, a key indicator of successful HIV treatment, reflects a reduction in the amount of virus in a patient’s body, decreasing the risk of transmission and improving overall health.
The first indicator is treatment for sufferers, the second is the success of the treatment measured by the suppressive viral load. Now we have succeeded in the only green color in Indonesia. But this is really a challenge for us to maintain going forward.
