Hirooki Goto Injured After IWGP Title Loss to Zack Sabre Jr.

Hirooki Goto’s wrestling role is on hold. The New Japan Pro-wrestling (NJPW) star is out of action with an elbow injury, the association announced Monday. The injury occurred during his IWGP World Championship match against Zack Sabre Jr. on Sunday at Tanahashi Jam.
Goto lost the title to Sabre Jr. during the event broadcast on Japanese television. NJPW officials stated that Goto will not compete on the july 4 card in Tokyo as of the injury. They apologized to fans who were anticipating Goto’s appearance.
According to NJPW, Sabre Jr. secured the victory after trapping Goto in an armbar, forcing the referee to stop the match.This marks Sabre Jr.’s second reign as world champion.
Goto’s previous wrestling role saw him hold the title for 138 days after defeating Sabre Jr. on Feb. 11. A rematch in May at NJPW Resurgence ended in a double pinfall, allowing goto to retain the championship at that time.
