Goulais River Fitness Center Opens: Community Welcomes First Local Gym
Goulais River Fitness Center Opens for Local Residents
The Goulais River Fitness Center opened on November 1. Brian and Jessie Dickson own the facility, which aims to meet the fitness needs of locals. They surveyed over 2,000 residents. Nearly half showed interest in signing up for memberships.
Brian works as a registered nurse at Sault Area Hospital. Jessie works full-time at the gym. The couple stays active, focusing on cardio and weight training. They emphasize healthy eating and fitness, especially with three young children.
“This community needed a gym, and we waited for years,” Jessie stated.
The fitness center has staff available from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on weekdays. Members can access the gym 24/7 with key fobs. This schedule suits shift workers well. Early morning use peaks from 4 to 6 a.m., and evening use from 7 to 9 p.m.
The gym already has over 30 members and offers various fitness classes and personal training. It features a friendly atmosphere and professional instructors.
Brian is passionate about community wellness, drawing from his background in nursing and firefighting. Jessie has experience in cheerleading and dance coaching and enjoys CrossFit.
The facility spans 2,500 square feet. It includes treadmills, a rowing machine, strength training equipment, bench press stations, and battle ropes. The gym also has tanning beds and a sauna for relaxation. Safety measures include a first aid kit and video cameras.
The Dicksons initially planned to open the gym in 2021 but faced challenges. They found a better location and reopened successfully with community support.
The Goulais River Fitness Center is located at 2771 Highway 17 North. It shares its space with local businesses, including a drug store and a building center. For more information, visit their social media pages to find membership details.
