The Pakistani government appointed Dr. ​Kabir ahmed Sidhu‍ as the new⁤ chairman of the Securities and exchange ​Commission ⁢of Pakistan (SECP) on‌ January 10, 2026,⁣ according⁢ to a notification ‍from the Finance Division.

Dr. Sidhu ⁤currently ⁤serves as the chairman of the Competition Commission of Pakistan (CCP), a role he began in August⁣ 2023.Prior to this appointment, he had a distinguished career in regulatory leadership⁢ and economic policy.

CCP Achievements Under Dr.Sidhu

During his tenure at the‍ CCP, the association‍ experienced substantial improvements. The CCP reduced its court case backlog‌ by over 70 percent, resolving 434 out of 567 pending cases within two years, which helped to restore the regulator’s‍ credibility and⁢ enforcement‍ capacity.

Financial‍ Recoveries and penalties

Under Dr. Sidhu’s leadership, the CCP recovered approximately Rs1.36 billion (approximately⁣ $4.8 million USD as of January 11, 2026) in penalties. This contrasts sharply with the previous 20 years, during which the CCP recovered only Rs200 million.The CCP also imposed over Rs2 billion ⁤in new‍ penalties⁤ through enforcement actions.

Crackdown on ​Anti-Competitive Practices
