Government Reduces Domestic Airfares by 10% for Christmas and New Year Travel
Government to Lower Domestic Airfares for Holidays
The Indonesian government will reduce domestic airfare for the upcoming Christmas and New Year holidays. Coordinating Minister for Infrastructure, Agus Harimurti Yudhoyono (AHY), announced the reduction could reach 10 percent.
AHY emphasized the importance of lowering ticket prices to support families and boost the economy, especially tourism. The government has discussed this plan with the Ministry of Transportation. AHY hopes that state-owned airlines will cooperate with this initiative.
Transportation Minister Dudy Purwaghandi confirmed that the price reduction will apply to 19 major airports, including Soekarno-Hatta and Denpasar in Bali.
President Prabowo Subianto held a meeting with several ministers to prepare for the holiday season. The agenda included transportation and food management, ensuring readiness for the expected influx of holiday travelers.
The Ministry of Transportation anticipates about 3.9 million passengers will travel during this holiday period. This number marks a 4 percent increase from previous years. The busiest travel days are expected to be December 24, 2024, for departures, and January 2, 2025, for returns.
With the reduction in airfares, the government aims to make travel more affordable and enjoyable for everyone during this festive season.
