Graebert ARES 2027: AI Enhancements and Forma Integration

Graebert has announced the release of the ARES 2027 product line, introducing a suite of CAD solutions designed for desktop, web, and mobile platforms. The release includes ARES Commander for desktop, ARES Kudo for web, and ARES Touch for mobile, aimed at providing a consistent DWG-native experience across a wide range of operating systems and devices.

The 2027 version emphasizes workflow efficiency and the integration of artificial intelligence, as well as cloud-based connectivity through Autodesk Forma integration. This integration extends to the free version of ARES Kudo.

ARES Commander 2027 Workflow Enhancements

ARES Commander 2027 introduces several features designed to reduce repetitive tasks and streamline the management of complex projects. A primary update is the PROPERTYPAINTER command, which now allows users to copy properties from an entity in one drawing file and apply them to entities in a separate, open drawing file. Previously, this command was limited to operations within a single drawing.

The PROPERTYPAINTER command has also been expanded to support a wider range of special properties, including standard attributes such as color, layer, line type, and line weight, matching capabilities similar to those found in AutoCAD.

To assist users transitioning from other DWG-based software, Graebert has added the MVSETUP command. This tool automates the creation and alignment of viewports, which is intended to reduce setup errors and maintain drafting standards.

the software introduces the LAYTRANS command, a new Layer Translator, and expanded file format support. Users can now convert DWG drawings to STEP or SVG formats, or import vector graphics and 3D models directly into their workflows.

XREF and Path Management

The 2027 release includes optimized path management for External References (XREFs). The software now automatically issues warnings when critical location changes occur in referenced drawings.

To resolve broken links, Graebert has implemented a batch workflow that allows users to correct missing reference paths in a single step, preventing the need for manual, individual updates across multiple files.

AI Integration and ARES AI Assist (A3)

Central to the new release is the expansion of ARES AI Assist, known as A3. First integrated into ARES Commander in version 2025, A3 is powered by OpenAI technology and allows users to interact with the software using natural language requests.

A3 is now also available in the web-based ARES Kudo. The AI assistant is designed to handle several specific CAD-related functions, including:

• Providing step-by-step instructions and feature localization.
• Offering industry-specific advice and answering technical questions.
• Assisting with calculations, conversions, and text-related tasks.
• Helping users localize specific features within the software interface.

While A3 assists with efficiency, Graebert notes that AI cannot yet fully automate the creation of CAD drawings. The company states that generative AI tools such as Claude, Gemini, or ChatGPT have not yet realized the automatic generation of CAD drawings. Instead, the current application of AI in ARES focuses on automating repetitive tasks, brainstorming ideas during early design phases, and suggesting modifications to existing drawings based on previous design data.

Industry Context and Compatibility

The ARES 2027 ecosystem is positioned as a DWG-native alternative that maintains high compatibility with AutoCAD. By introducing commands like MVSETUP and enhancing the PROPERTYPAINTER, Graebert aims to lower the barrier for users switching from other DWG-based CAD platforms.

The inclusion of Autodesk Forma cloud integration further links the ARES environment with BIM-to-DWG automation and cloud-based collaboration, reflecting a broader push toward integrating traditional 2D/3D CAD with modern cloud-based architectural and engineering workflows.
