Grand Central Station Shooting and Stabbing: 2 Seriously Injured

At least two people were critically injured during a shooting and stabbing incident on the morning of April 11, 2026, at the Grand Central-42nd Street subway station in Midtown Manhattan.

According to reports from NBC New York and The Guardian, a man armed with a machete attacked multiple individuals on the subway platform serving the 4, 5 and 6 train lines. The incident occurred at approximately 9:50 a.m. At the station located at the corner of East 42nd Street and Park Avenue.

The FDNY confirmed that two victims were transported to Bellevue Hospital in critical condition. A witness described seeing at least one person slashed with a large knife, identified as a machete, while police officers were seen with guns drawn and ordering the suspect to drop the weapon.

The New York Post reported that the suspect was shot by police after stabbing at least two people. The suspect is currently in critical condition.

Transit Disruptions and Police Response

The New York Police Department advised the public to avoid the vicinity of Grand Central as the investigation unfolded. The agency warned of heavy traffic and delays in the surrounding area.

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) implemented several service changes in response to the police activity:

• The 4, 5, and 6 subway lines skipped the Grand Central-42nd Street station in both directions.
• The 5 train experienced delays in both directions.
