Grant ​to ​support⁣ First-Generation,Low-Income,and​ Differing Abilities⁢ Students

Grand View ‌University in des Moines,Iowa,has⁣ received a $1,361,280 grant from​ the U.S. Department ⁤of Education’s TRIO Student Support Services program. The five-year grant, announced recently, ​will provide ⁣resources​ and ‌support to students who are first-generation college students, come ⁢from low-income backgrounds,⁢ or have differing‍ abilities. ⁤

The TRIO Student⁢ Support Services program ⁢aims to⁣ increase student persistence,academic success,graduation rates,and enrollment in graduate or‌ professional programs. According to ⁢the U.S. Department of Education, TRIO programs have a long ‍history of helping students overcome barriers to higher education (U.S. Department of‌ Education).

University Leadership Praises ⁣the Grant

Grand View university ​President Rachelle Keck expressed her enthusiasm for the ⁢grant, stating, “This TRIO‍ grant is ​a first in⁢ Grand View’s history ‌and affirms our deep commitment to access and success for all students.” She⁤ further ⁤explained that the investment will⁢ allow the university to provide more intentional support ⁢to eligible⁣ students, ensuring they have the‍ resources needed to succeed.

“This investment will enable us to walk alongside more ​first-generation, low-income students and students with differing abilities in ⁤even ⁣more intentional⁢ ways, ensuring they have the resources needed to persist, graduate and thrive,” Keck said in a prepared statement.

Impact and Timeline

The $1,361,280 grant ‍will be distributed over five years, beginning in the current academic year. The ⁤funds⁢ will ⁢be used to create and expand support services tailored to the specific needs of TRIO-eligible ‍students. ​ These services may ‌include academic advising, tutoring, financial literacy ​workshops, career counseling, ‌and assistance with graduate ‌school applications.

Grand View University serves approximately ​2,200 students ⁣ (Grand View University Facts & Figures). The ‌grant is⁣ expected to directly impact a significant portion of the ⁢student⁤ population who qualify for TRIO support.

About TRIO ⁢Programs
