Because of the cable theft, all lines through the Chelmsford area were forced to operate at a much reduced speed. The resulting congestion and delays impacted key commuter routes into London Liverpool Street, including services originating in Norwich, Ipswich, Colchester, and Clacton-on-Sea, according to Greater Anglia.
Cancellations Mount as Repairs Stretch Into the Afternoon

Network Rail and Greater Anglia issued apologies to affected travelers, with both outlets confirming that disruption was expected to persist until at least 15:00 BST on August 30.
Flexibility Offered While Police Hunt Perpetrators
Travelers caught in the disruption have been granted flexibility by the rail operator.
In addition, passengers whose journeys were delayed by 15 minutes or more may be eligible to claim compensation through the operator’s delay repay scheme.
