Des Moines’ community progress efforts are entering a new phase with the appointment of Theresa Greenfield as the Chief Executive Officer of Invest DSM. Greenfield succeeds Amber Lynch, who stepped down in May after founding the institution in mid-2019, as reported by the Business Record.

Greenfield’s appointment signals a continued commitment to revitalizing Des Moines neighborhoods through strategic investment and community partnerships. Her extensive background in both real estate and public service positions her well to lead Invest DSM’s ongoing initiatives.
A Career Rooted in Iowa Development
Greenfield, 61, brings a diverse and impactful career to her new role. She began her professional life in urban planning before transitioning to leadership positions within the real estate sector. From 2005 to 2007, she served as Director of Real Estate Development for the Rottlund Company Inc. in Minnesota, followed by a role as Division President of Rottlund Homes of Iowa from 2007 to 2011.
In 2012, Greenfield took the helm as President of Colby Management Co. in Windsor Heights, where she oversaw a significant $100 million real estate portfolio and a 900-acre farming operation. This experience demonstrates a keen understanding of both urban and rural economic drivers within Iowa.
Federal Service and Community Impact
Most recently, Greenfield served as the Iowa State Director for U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development from November 2021 until January 2025. In this capacity, she spearheaded federal investments aimed at bolstering housing, infrastructure, and economic opportunities across rural Iowa, managing a team of 70 across 11 statewide offices.this role highlights her ability to navigate complex systems and deliver tangible benefits to Iowa communities.
While Greenfield is also known for her 2020 run for U.S. Senate, where she was the Democratic nominee challenging incumbent Joni Ernst, her career has consistently focused on building and strengthening Iowa communities.
