Griffin Leads Six to Earn PGA Tour Cards at Q-School
Griffin Eagles His Way to PGA Tour Card at Q-School
PONTE VEDRA BEACH, Fla. – Lanto Griffin‘s 40-foot eagle putt on his opening hole set the tone for a dominant final round at Q-school, propelling him to a 7-under 63 and medalist honors. Griffin’s impressive performance secured him a PGA Tour card for the upcoming season, leading a group of six players who earned full status amidst a field vying for a coveted spot on golf’s biggest stage.
With the PGA Tour undergoing meaningful changes, including smaller fields starting in 2025, securing a top-five finish was paramount. Griffin, finishing at 9-under 271, achieved that goal with room to spare.
Joining Griffin on the path to the PGA Tour are Hayden Buckley (67), former world No. 1 amateur Takumi Kanaya of Japan (69), Alejandro tosti of Argentina (66), Will Chandler (66), and Matthew Riedel (72).
Kanaya, known for his remarkable amateur career, displayed nerves of steel, sinking crucial 8-foot par putts on his final two holes to clinch his spot.
Chandler’s journey was notably dramatic. Facing a dwindling window of opportunity, he ignited a remarkable back nine charge on the dye valley course at TPC Sawgrass, carding a blistering 30. A 45-foot eagle putt on the 16th hole proved to be a turning point, propelling him towards his PGA Tour dream.
Riedel endured a nail-biting finish. After a wayward drive on the challenging par-4 17th threatened to derail his chances, his ball found refuge in the thick Bermuda rough, sparing him from a watery grave. He salvaged a crucial par, setting the stage for a tense final hole.
Riedel’s tee shot on the 18th veered left, landing safely away from the water hazard. His approach shot fell short, leaving him with a delicate chip that landed 4 feet past the cup. The pressure mounted as his par putt teetered on the edge, ultimately dropping in for a hard-earned PGA Tour card.
Alistair Docherty, tied for the led entering the final round, faced a heartbreaking finish. He remained birdie-less until the 17th hole, needing one more to secure his PGA Tour card for the first time. However, his approach shot on the 18th sailed over the green, dashing his hopes.
While those who didn’t earn PGA Tour cards will recieve varying levels of status on the Korn Ferry Tour, the six players who emerged victorious from Q-school will now prepare for the challenges and opportunities that await them on golf’s grandest stage.
