BANGKOK (AP) – Elon Musk’s AI chatbot Grok will prevent editing photos to depict real people in revealing clothing where illegal, according to a statement on X.
The change follows global criticism regarding sexualized images of women and children, prompting bans and warnings from some governments.

California announced an inquiry into the creation of nonconsensual sexually explicit material using Grok, alleging harassment of women and girls. Initial responses to media inquiries were dismissive.
xAI now states it will geoblock content violating local laws. The company will prevent editing images of people in revealing attire, including bikinis and underwear, for all users, even paid subscribers.
Image creation and editing are now limited to paid subscribers to facilitate accountability for policy violations.
As of Thursday morning, the Associated Press found the image editing tool remained accessible to free X users and on the Grok website/app. The tool could still generate images of people in bikinis from a California-based free account.
