New​ system modernizes​ passenger transport, allowing choice beyond traditional card.

Starting friday, select cities ⁤now allow passengers to‍ pay for public transportation using various contactless ‍methods, along ⁣with teh existing “Go up” card system. Passengers can now use⁣ debit, credit, and prepaid contactless cards (Visa and Mastercard)‌ issued by any bank, and also electronic ⁣wallets and smartwatches.

As of today, readers that admit payment ‌with credit⁤ and debit cards are⁤ enabled on bus lines in Mendoza Capital; ‌Rafael Río Cuarto; lines ⁢4, 12, 34, 39, 61, 62 and​ 68 of the city of buenos Aires;‍ and ‍line number⁤ 1 of⁤ the ​AMBA.

Adorni ‍added that the expansion will ⁢continue in the coming weeks:

In the coming weeks, the ​system⁣ will be enabled in Neuquén, ⁤san Luis, ⁢Tucumán, Rosario Sur, Tandil, and ⁤numerous lines of the AMBA​ area. A ⁤total of 31,000 UPR readers will be updated in groups⁢ of more then 60 cities nationwide‌ and on seven AMBA train lines.

According to the official, the National Government aims to‌ provide users with greater flexibility.

With this measure, the National Government promotes users’ freedom⁣ by choosing⁢ the means ​of payment, along​ with modernizing and expediting the system to access public ⁤transport, ‌as ‌is ‌already the case in many cities worldwide.

The ​authorization of new payment methods on public transportation​ will be‌ extended to additional locations gradually. Implementation on trains⁢ and other locations will be communicated as⁢ start dates are confirmed, following ​the necessary installation and system⁢ updates.

Payment‍ via QR code is slated ‌to become available by the end of May for ​localities already offering option payment methods, in ⁣accordance with resolutions from the Central⁤ Bank‌ of the Argentine Republic.
