Apple Ends Decade-Long Interview Tradition⁢ with John Gruber

 Updated⁤ June 19, 2025
⁣

For nearly a decade, Apple executives regularly appeared on John Gruber’s podcast, The Talk Show, during the company’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC). Craig Federighi, Greg Joswiak, and‍ John ‍Giannandrea were among those who joined ‌Gruber in San Jose to discuss ‌Apple Intelligence and other topics.

However, this tradition ended when Apple declined Gruber’s invitation to participate in this year’s WWDC episode. The decision came after gruber ⁢published a blog‌ post critical of Apple’s presentation⁤ at WWDC 2024. He argued that Apple “pitched a story that wasn’t‌ true” regarding a personalized Siri, wich has since been delayed. ⁢Gruber⁤ expressed concern that this damaged Apple’s credibility and signaled deeper issues within the company.

Apple reportedly took issue with Gruber’s commentary. Speaking with Peter Kafka on the Channels podcast, Gruber said Apple ‍felt his blog post was unfair.

Despite Apple’s decision, Gruber believes it ultimately benefits him.”I feel them deciding not‍ to do my show this year is a total win for me and was a huge loss ‌for them,” Gruber said.

He elaborated, “I think it asserts my independence. ⁤and I think more than making‍ me look good, I‌ think it makes them⁣ look bad.”

For his WWDC 2025 episode, Gruber interviewed Joanna Stern of The Wall street Journal and Nilay Patel from The Verge.

What’s⁢ next

it remains to be seen whether Apple and Gruber will resume their interview tradition in the future. The impact of ‍Apple’s decision on Gruber’s influence and Apple’s public image will likely be a topic of discussion⁤ in the tech community.
