Gu Lin Ruyang Joins Nippon Hams
On November 26, 2024, 24-year-old pitcher Gu Lin Ruyang officially joined the Nippon Hokkaido Nippon Ham Fighters from the Uni-President Lions. The announcement was made at a press conference attended by Lions head coach Lin Yuping, who expressed deep emotions regarding Ruyang’s journey over the past six years.
Lin Yuping recalled the challenges that Ruyang faced, particularly during a difficult recovery period due to hand discomfort, which led to uncertainty about his future in baseball. Despite these obstacles, Ruyang rose from pitching coach of the Second Army to a prominent player in the First Army. Lin stated, “I am more proud of Gu Lin Ruyang than when I won the championship in Japan.” He hopes Ruyang will represent the pride of the Uni-President Lions, Taiwan, and the international stage.
Gu Lin Ruyang was drafted in the first round by the Uni-President Lions in 2018. After a successful season, he decided to pursue opportunities in Japan, marking a significant step in his professional career. Reports suggest he may sign a multi-year deal with the Nippon Hams.
This milestone reflects not just Ruyang’s personal achievements but also the growth of Taiwanese talent in international baseball. As he embarks on this new chapter, fans are optimistic about his contributions to the Nippon Hams and his potential to shine on a global platform.
