Gu Lin Ruyang, a pitcher from the Chinese professional baseball team Unified Lions, held a press conference in Taipei on November 26, 2024. He announced his move to join the Nippon Ham Fighters in Japan.
Gu Lin Ruyang, 24, developed his skills at Pingzhen High School but initially struggled due to physical challenges. He later trained at a secondary vocational school before signing with the Unified Lions. After exercising his free agent rights, he is now ready to take on the challenge in Japan.
In his press conference, Gu Lin stated that moving abroad is a significant step for Taiwanese baseball. He emphasized that his journey demonstrates that Taiwan can produce talented players. He hopes to inspire high school students to pursue their dreams of playing baseball internationally.
Lin Yuping, head coach of the Unified Lions, praised Gu’s determination and talent. He highlighted Gu’s ability to adapt after facing injuries and challenges, showcasing his growth as a pitcher. Lin shared that Gu improved his skills over the years, adding new pitch types to his repertoire, including cutters and sinkers.
