Vehicle Fires in Guadalajara, Mexico Under Investigation
Authorities in Guadalajara, Mexico are investigating a series of vehicle fires that occurred over the past several days. A man, identified as Medardo ‘N’, reportedly experiencing homelessness, was detained on February 3, 2026, and is suspected of setting at least six vehicles ablaze in the Moderna neighborhood during the early hours of February 1, 2026.
According to the Fiscalía del Estado de Jalisco, the suspect was identified through interviews with victims and witnesses, leading to targeted search operations. Agents located a 48-year-old man matching the description at the intersection of Agustín Yáñez and Chapultepec avenues.
The Fiscalía stated that the suspect became verbally aggressive and threatened investigating police officers. During a search, authorities reportedly found a plastic container containing gasoline and various doses of drugs in his possession.
Medardo ‘N’ is currently being held and questioned by the Public Ministry, where investigators are working to determine the full extent of his involvement and his legal status.
The fires are not isolated to the Moderna neighborhood. On the same day as the initial incidents, approximately nine additional vehicles parked in a lot in the Ferrocarril neighborhood were also intentionally set on fire around 8:00 a.m. Local time.

Firefighters responded to the Ferrocarril lot, forcing entry to extinguish the flames and prevent them from spreading to nearby homes and buildings. Authorities have not yet determined if the fires in Ferrocarril are connected to the incidents in Moderna, and no injuries were reported in either case.
The investigation remains ongoing.
