New CHUG Hospital in Belle-Plaine Nears Completion, Prioritizing Patient Experience
The Centre Hospitalier universitaire de Guadeloupe (CHUG) in Belle-Plaine is on track to welcome it’s first patients before the end of 2024, pending a final safety inspection scheduled for late November. Construction activity is currently focused on finalizing preparations for patient care.
Enhanced accessibility and Patient Flow
The new hospital has been designed with global accessibility in mind. A central thoroughfare, dubbed “Caribbean Street,” runs through the complex, connecting all buildings and providing access to numerous elevators and elevated footbridges leading to the technical platform. This design ensures ease of movement for all patients and staff.
Patient pathways have been carefully considered to separate emergency, consultation, and scheduled hospitalization flows, improving efficiency and reducing congestion. Clear signage and designated areas will guide patients to their appropriate destinations.
Focus on outpatient care and Day Hospitals
The CHUG will substantially expand its outpatient services with the addition of four dedicated day hospitals specializing in medicine, surgery, oncology-hematology, and pediatrics. This model of care, favored by both physicians and patients, allows for more focused and efficient treatment without requiring overnight hospital stays.
Streamlining Caregiver Workload
Beyond physical improvements, the CHUG is implementing organizational and technological innovations aimed at reducing logistical burdens on healthcare professionals. The goal is to free up caregivers to dedicate more time and attention to direct patient care, ultimately enhancing the quality of service.
