The opening match of the 2026 Guangdong City Football Super League took place on April 25 at Guangzhou’s Yuexiushan Stadium, with Guangzhou defeating Jiangmen to secure an opening victory in the tournament.
The game marked the official start of the league, which features amateur teams from all 21 cities across Guangdong province for the first time. Yuexiushan Stadium hosted the opening ceremony and kickoff match as part of the league’s launch.
Guangzhou’s victory came after weeks of preparation, including centralized training at the University Town Sports Center football field following open trials that saw nearly 100 players register for selection. The squad was finalized under the guidance of veteran scouts Peng Weiguo and Wu Qunli, with head coach Peng Jinbo overseeing integration of the new roster.
The team includes local university players such as Fan Xuanyu from Guangzhou Sport University and Lin Qishi from Guangdong University of Technology, while midfielder Liu Fangyu joined via recommendation from the Huangpu district representative team.
