Guardiola’s Bold Ultimatum: Will He Quit If He Can’t Revive Manchester City?
Pep Guardiola, Manchester City’s manager, has committed to resigning if he cannot improve the team’s poor performance. City is currently on a six-match winless streak, including five losses and a 3-3 draw after leading 3-0 against Feyenoord.
Guardiola, who has led the club to 18 trophies since 2016, recently extended his contract until 2027. Despite his achievements, he feels uncertain about his future and is asking the club for support. He stated, “I don’t want to stay if I feel like I’m a problem.” He hopes to turn things around when players return from injury.
This season has been tough for City, especially with key players like Rodri and Kevin De Bruyne injured. Rodri is likely out for the rest of the season, and De Bruyne has not played since September. The pressure mounts as City faces Liverpool, the current Premier League leaders. A loss would leave City 11 points behind.
Guardiola expressed his dissatisfaction with the team’s current state, noting he doesn’t sleep as well as when they were winning. However, he remains hopeful and believes in his team’s fighting spirit. He said, “Why should we not believe?”
Liverpool’s manager, Arne Slot, respects Guardiola and believes he will find a solution to City’s struggles. Slot described Guardiola as the best manager, citing his ability to adapt and innovate. He acknowledged the challenges faced by both teams due to injuries but stressed that past results do not guarantee future outcomes.
City’s injury list is significant, with Rodri, Mateo Kovacic, Ruben Dias, and John Stones unavailable. De Bruyne is also working his way back. Liverpool has its own injury issues, with Alisson and Diogo Jota out, but they expect Trent Alexander-Arnold to return.
Both teams understand the importance of this match, as winning against competitors is crucial for success in the league.
