Italian Data Protection⁣ authority Member Resigns Amid Inquiry

Guido Scorza resigned from ⁣his position as ⁣a member of the Italian Data Protection AuthorityS board on January‌ 17, ‌2026,⁢ following an investigation into ⁤allegations of‌ embezzlement and corruption.⁢ Scorza informed the Authority’s ‌President, ‌fellow board members, and Secretary-General ⁣Luigi Montuori of⁣ his decision, ⁣ according to Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Scorza was appointed to the board in 2020 following a nomination by the Five Star Movement. He was the sole ‍member to vote ‍against a 150,000 euro fine levied⁣ against the investigative journalism program Report,⁣ a decision that triggered subsequent journalistic investigations by Report and Il Fatto Quotidiano.

Investigators are examining⁤ whether the Authority improperly handled complaints from clients of E-lex,where his ⁤wife ‍continues to work.

“I⁤ decided to take a ⁤step back – in the interest of the Data Protection Authority. It has been five and a half beautiful years on the right side of the⁢ world.⁢ For now, thank you to everyone, but goodbye‍ from the same side – that of⁣ rights, freedoms, and democracy,” Scorza
