A brazen heist has dealt another blow to thirsty Brits already facing a Guinness shortage this holiday season.

Just as pubs across the UK were rationing pints of the beloved “black stuff,” a truck carrying 400 kegs of Guinness – equivalent to a whopping 35,200 pints – vanished from a logistics hub near Daventry, Northamptonshire, in mid-December.

The theft, confirmed by sources familiar with the incident, comes as Guinness-maker Diageo scrambles to replenish dwindling supplies. The company, which brews the stout at its iconic St. James’s gate brewery in Dublin, has reportedly sent backup reserves from Ireland to quench the thirst of British drinkers.

Thirsty Brits Face Rationing

The shortage, which has led to ration cards in some pubs, is partly attributed to Guinness’s surging popularity among Gen Z.The younger generation’s fondness for posing with pints on social media has fueled a surge in demand, prompting Diageo to ramp up marketing efforts and collaborate with influencers to boost the brand’s profile.

“Its crazy timing,” said Liam, a pub-goer in London. “Pubs are running dry all over the place. Some are even using ration cards! they blame Gen Z for all that social media flexing with their pints.”

Fiona, a fellow Guinness enthusiast, agreed. “I can see that. Gen Z loves a good Instagrammable drink.Maybe Guinness should sponsor some influencers to promote responsible drinking alongside their pint pics.”

A History of Guinness heists

This isn’t the first time guinness has been targeted by thieves. In 2007, a van made off with 180 kegs of Guinness, 180 kegs of Budweiser, and 90 kegs of Carlsberg from the St. James’s Gate brewery – a heist totaling 40,000 pints.

The recent theft adds to a string of audacious food-related crimes in the UK. In December, a Michelin-starred chef pleaded with thieves who stole his van containing 2,500 pies to donate them to those in need. Just two months prior, detectives arrested a 63-year-old man suspected of orchestrating the theft of 22 tonnes of cheddar cheese worth an estimated £300,000.

As the Guinness drought continues, thirsty Brits can only hope that the stolen kegs are recovered and that supplies are replenished soon.

“It’s definitely making for a very captivating holiday season for beer lovers,” Fiona said.

Guinness Drought Deepens: 35,000 Pints Stolen in Daring Heist

James: Hey Sarah, did you hear about that crazy Guinness heist? Apparently, they stole a truckload full of Guinness – like 35,000 pints!

Sarah: No way! Seriously?

James: Yes! Apparently, it happened near Daventry, and they just vanished with teh whole truck. It’s crazy timing too, because pubs are already rationing Guinness because of a shortage.

Sarah: Rationing? Really? What’s causing the shortage?

James: Yeah, apparently it’s become super popular with Gen Z – all those Instagram pics of pints are kind of fueling it. Diageo, the company that makes Guinness, is trying to ship more over from Ireland, but it’s not fast enough.

Sarah: Wow, so this heist is making the situation even worse?

James: Exactly. Some pubs are even using ration cards – like imagine having to show ID to get your Guinness fix!

Sarah: That’s wild! Do they know who stole the Guinness?

James: Nope, no leads yet. It does remind me of that heist back in 2007 when they stole tons of Guinness from the St. James’s Gate brewery – people go nuts for a good pint!

Sarah: This country is having some weird food-related crime spree lately, huh?

James: Tell me about it! Remember the chef who had 2,500 pies stolen?

Sarah: Yeah, it’s insane.

Maybe this is just what happens when everyone is obsessed with posting their food online, people start stealing it!

James:** maybe!
