Melbourne School Lockdown: St. Bede’s College Placed on High Alert Over Social Media Threat

St. Bede’s College in Mentone, Melbourne, was placed on lockdown at 8:25 a.m. on Wednesday due to a threatening social media post.

The lockdown was prompted by a photo posted on social media on Tuesday night, which showed a weapon and included a caption that mentioned harming a teacher.

Parents took to Facebook to express their concerns, with one person claiming that the photo had sparked the lockdown.

Victoria Police confirmed that the Moorabbin crime investigation unit was investigating a ‘social media threatening post’ reported around 11 p.m. on Tuesday.

However, the police spokesperson stated that the post did not contain any threats against any specific school or individual.

An investigation is underway to determine who wrote the post.

St. Bede’s College issued a statement confirming that the lockdown had been lifted and that all students and staff were safe.

The statement read: ‘At 8.25am today, St Bede’s College Mentone went into lockdown on police advice as part of a police operation. The lockdown was lifted at 9:40 a.m. and classes resumed as normal.’

The school appreciated the cooperation and understanding of everyone in their community.
