James ⁢gunn, chief ‌of DC‌ Studios, is prioritizing the development of new Batman and Wonder Woman films as part of⁢ the DC Universe. This focus comes as his film, “Superman,” prepares‍ for release and “supergirl” undergoes post-production.

Warner Bros. Finding CEO David Zaslav previously identified Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl as key characters for the new DC Universe. Gunn’s “Superman” will feature a less powerful version of the hero. “I didn’t want a Superman who could punch planets… He’s a little less powerful. We have a Superman that can be beat,” Gunn said.

The “Supergirl” film, now simply titled “Supergirl,” is in post-production, with Gunn stating he had limited involvement after the script was completed.‍ The future of⁤ other heroes, specifically Batman and Wonder Woman, is now a priority. While‍ two batman films were announced, one within the DCU (“The Brave and the Bold”) and one outside (Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II”), both⁢ projects have faced challenges.

Gunn is actively ⁢involved in⁢ shaping the “Batman: The Brave and the Bold” and “wonder Woman” films to ensure they‌ meet his vision for the DCU. He emphasized the importance of ‌a ⁢compelling reason for Batman’s existence within the universe.

“Batman’s my biggest issue in all of DC right now, personally… I am working with the writer of Batman and trying to get it right, ‌because he’s incredibly crucial to DC, as is Wonder Woman… our⁣ two priorities are finishing our Wonder Woman and our Batman scripts.”

Gunn addressed speculation surrounding Matt Reeves’ “The Batman Part II,” clarifying that the project‌ is still in ⁢development. “It’s not canceled,” Gunn said.”We don’t have a script. Matt’s‌ slow. Let him take his time. Let him do his thing.”

Gunn also revealed that he recently canceled a greenlit ⁣project due to an unsatisfactory screenplay, underscoring his commitment to quality over quantity. “We just ⁢killed a project…The screenplay wasn’t ready.‍ And I couldn’t‍ do a movie where the screenplay’s not good,” Gunn stated.

What’s next

“Superman” is scheduled to premiere‍ in theaters ⁢July 11. Gunn’s dedication to script⁢ quality suggests that future DC universe films will only move forward with⁣ strong foundations, ensuring a cohesive and engaging cinematic experience. The role of Batman and Wonder Woman ⁤in the DCU is being carefully considered, with Gunn emphasizing the need for a unique position for each character. The ⁣ part each hero plays will be crucial to the overall narrative.
