DC Fans Debate Batman’s Role in New DC Universe
Discord among DC fans has surfaced regarding the integration of Robert Pattinson’s batman into James Gunn’s new DC Universe. gunn, chief of DC Studios, has stated that his upcoming DC Universe, featuring works like “Superman” and “Supergirl,” will exist independently from Matt Reeves’ “The Batman” films and the related ”The Penguin” series. This separation of universes has sparked debate among fans, notably concerning the role of Batman.
Gunn’s DCU is expected to introduce a different version of Batman, potentially including Bruce Wayne, his son Damian Wayne, and othre members of the Bat-family like Robin, nightwing, and Batgirl. This contrasts sharply with Pattinson’s portrayal of a solitary, early-career Batman, whose world appears distinct from the one envisioned in “Superman.” Despite this, some fans are advocating for Pattinson’s Batman to become the definitive Batman within the DCU.
The debate played out on Gunn’s Threads feed after a fan claimed that “all” DC fans wanted Pattinson’s Batman to join the DCU. Gunn responded, “All woudl seem to be pushing it.” Responses to the post indicated that opinions were divided, with many opposing the inclusion of Pattinson’s Batman in the DCU, while others supported it. The exchanges ranged from courteous to hostile.
Warner Bros. Discovery CEO David Zaslav has emphasized that Batman, Superman, Wonder Woman, and Supergirl are key characters for the future of DC Studios. However, updates on the DCU Batman project have been scarce. Gunn recently noted that Reeves’ “The Batman Part II” has yet to submit its final script. The future role of Batman remains a point of contention among fans and within the studio.
What’s next
The future of Batman in the DC Universe remains uncertain as fans continue to debate which version of the character should take center stage. The final script for “The Batman Part II” is still pending, and further announcements from DC Studios are anticipated to clarify the direction of the iconic hero.
