Athletics’ Gunnar Hoglund Out for Season After Hip Surgery

Oakland Athletics right-hander Gunnar HoglundS season is over. The team announced friday that the rookie pitcher underwent triumphant hip surgery and will be sidelined for the remainder of 2025. The Athletics placed Hoglund on the 15-day injured list June 2, retroactive to June 1, due to hip impingement.
The surgery addressed a hip labral repair and cartilage debridement in his right hip, according to the A’s.
Hoglund, 25, debuted this season with Oakland after the Toronto Blue Jays selected him 19th overall in the 2021 MLB Draft.His first start on May 2 against the Miami Marlins was a win. He pitched six innings, allowing one run and striking out seven in the 6-1 victory.
His subsequent May starts proved less successful. Hoglund’s record stands at 1-3 with a 6.40 ERA and 23 strikeouts across six starts,totaling 32 1/3 innings.
What’s next
The Athletics have not announced a timeline for Hoglund’s recovery, but he is expected to be ready for spring training in 2026.
