Gurugram Woman Assaulted: Head Smashed, Private Parts Attacked by Partner

Gurugram Woman Allegedly Assaulted, Private Parts Torched by Live-In Partner
A 19-year-old woman from Tripura is undergoing treatment at Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital after allegedly being brutally assaulted by her live-in partner in Gurugram. The woman alleges that the man, identified as Shivam, poured sanitiser on her private parts and attempted to set them on fire, in addition to a sustained three-day period of physical violence.
The incident unfolded in a flat in Gurugram’s Badshahpur police station area, where the woman and Shivam, a resident of Delhi’s Narela, were living together. Police have arrested Shivam and sent him to judicial custody, according to reports.
The woman, a biotechnology student, told police that the violence began after an argument over their marriage plans. She alleges that Shivam attacked her with a steel bottle, smashing it against furniture and then assaulting her with a knife. She further claims he recorded obscene videos of her during the ordeal.
According to her statement, the assault escalated on February 16, 2026, when Shivam allegedly poured sanitiser on her private parts and attempted to ignite it. She also alleges he repeatedly beat her, smashing her head against a wall and hitting her with an earthen pot.
The woman managed to contact her mother on February 18, using Shivam’s phone, speaking in their local language to avoid detection. Her mother then alerted the police, and the woman was taken to a hospital. Initially treated at Gurugram’s Sector-10 government hospital, she was deemed unfit to give a statement and subsequently transferred to Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi, where she was able to provide her testimony to police.
The police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against Shivam under sections 115, 118(1), 118(2), 127(2), 69 and 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita.
The woman and Shivam reportedly met through an online dating app in September 2025 and began living together months later. Marriage talks had reportedly begun between their families prior to the alleged assault.
The case highlights the dangers faced by individuals in live-in relationships and the potential for escalating violence. Authorities are continuing their investigation.
