GWAR Unleashes Thrash Metal Cover of Chappell Roan’s ‘Pink Pony Club’
GWAR, the famously costumed metal band, surprised fans with a high-energy cover of Chappell Roan’s 2023 hit, “Pink Pony Club.” The cover premiered as part of the latest season of A.V. Undercover, recorded at Chelsea Studios in New York City.
GWAR transformed the pop song into a thrash metal anthem. Vocalist Berserker Blóthar explained the band’s connection to the track: “‘Pink Pony Club’ is about embracing exile from a boring, shitty world and remaking yourself into whatever you want – be who you are, be who you aren’t, piss people off, we don’t care!”

This isn’t the first time GWAR has tackled an unexpected song with their signature “intergalactic metal” sound. In 2024, they released a cover of ‘I’m Just Ken’ from the Barbie movie. Read more about that cover here.
Beyond their musical differences, GWAR and Chappell Roan share common ground in their values. In November, Blöthar the Berserker signed a bidet auctioned by john Oliver to benefit public broadcasting. Blöthar previously spoke out against cuts to public media funding.
