In order to promote knowledge related to health,wellness and medical care,the jinhu Town Library has been positioned as a “health and medical special library” since it’s establishment,and has specially set up a “health and medical area” to continue to enhance the public’s correct health concepts thru professional lectures and various resource sharing. The jinhu Town Library recently held a health and medical lecture, and invited Dr. Zheng Kaiyuan from the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology of Kinmen Hospital to give health education on the theme of “Three Major Gynecological Cancers and Menopause.”
Dr. Zheng Kaiyuan pointed out that cancer is caused by normal cells losing control and transforming into cancer cells after the DNA that controls the cells is damaged. When the number of cell replication or destruction increases, the chance of DNA errors also increases, and hormonal stimulation (such as breast or endometrial tissue), smoking, inflammatory response, specific infections, toxins, and alcohol may all become triggering factors.

In the field of gynecology, ovarian cancer, endometrial cancer and cervical cancer are regarded as the three major cancers. Regarding ovarian cancer, Dr. zheng pointed out that risk factors include “never being pregnant” and “having a family history of ovarian cancer, breast cancer or endometriosis.” Early symptoms are often vague, making early detection challenging. Common symptoms include abdominal bloating, pelvic pain, and changes in bowel or bladder habits.
