Haas F1: Ocon Laments Mistakes at Belgian Grand Prix
Bearman Sees Promising Signs Despite Another 11th Place Finish for Haas
Oliver bearman has once again finished just outside the points in 11th place, marking the fourth consecutive race where the young British driver has secured this position. While the result might seem like a frustrating repeat, Bearman is focusing on the notable positives, particularly the performance boost from Haas’s latest upgrades, which he believes are making the team much more competitive.
Upgrades Showing Promise, But Race Day Woes Persist
Bearman explained that a slightly mistimed pit stop onto the medium tires was the primary reason he found himself just outside the points in P11. “I think we were a little bit late with the frist stop onto the medium, which put me just out of the points in P11,” he stated.
The situation was further compounded by an engine issue that cost him valuable track position. “Then unfortunately I had an engine issue and lost three positions,” bearman elaborated. “So,I was actually ahead of [Pierre] Gasly before that issue and with Nico [Hulkenberg] boxing later,I would have been a net P10. But unfortunately, we had an engine issue, I was actually managing some issues with the power unit for the whole race, so we have to have a look at why.”
Despite the mechanical gremlins, Bearman was buoyed by the car’s performance. “But the car felt fantastic, I was just not able to overtake. It really sucked as the car was good. It was a shame to narrowly miss out on points, but we got some yesterday. I think we can be positive heading into Hungary. It’s a track I think will suit us quite well, so fingers crossed.”
qualifying Pace a Clear Enhancement for Haas
A known weakness for Haas this season has been their qualifying and one-lap pace. However, the recent upgrades appear to have addressed this, with both Haas cars making it into SQ3 on Friday. This marks a significant step forward for the team.
“We’ve been strong, we’ve been fast – on both downforce configurations as of course today and yesterday in quali I had a different one to earlier in the weekend and both times I had the potential to be in Q3, so the car is clearly quick,” Bearman continued, highlighting the progress.
while acknowledging the team’s forward momentum, Bearman also pointed out areas for improvement. “We are making a few too many mistakes as a group so we have work to do, but we are going to get there.” The team’s ability to translate this improved pace into consistent points finishes will be the next crucial challenge.
