The fourth season finale of “Hacks” takes viewers to Singapore,showcasing what many are calling the series’ most beautiful cinematography. Adam Bricker, the show’s cinematographer, and his team captured Deborah Vance‘s emotional journey against the backdrop of the Singapore skyline, creating a visually striking experience.
The episode, titled “Heaven,” features Deborah Vance, played by Jean Smart, grappling with the aftermath of leaving her late-night series.Two montages highlight her emotional state, one set in Las Vegas and another in Singapore. The latter, set to a Faye Wong cover of “dreams,” follows Deborah as she performs stand-up in a casino and finds herself increasingly isolated despite her luxurious surroundings.
A pivotal scene shows Deborah dancing alone at a rooftop club, the Singapore skyline behind her. Bricker said the location, atop One Singapore, instantly struck him and production designer Rob Tokarz as a perfect spot to visually represent Deborah’s complex emotions.
