The band Haim recently delivered a unique performance in the BBC Radio 1 Live Lounge, showcasing their musical versatility. For their cover song, the sisters chose Addison Rae’s ”Headphones On” but added an unexpected twist.
Danielle Haim led the group as they seamlessly wove in elements of Janet Jackson’s 1997 hit,”Got ‘Til It’s Gone,” which itself samples Joni Mitchell’s classic,”Big Yellow Taxi.” The blend created a cross-generational musical experience for listeners.
The lyrics of Rae’s “You can’t fix what has already been broken/You just have to surrender to the moment” found resonance with Jackson and Mitchell’s iconic lines: “Don’t it always seem to go that you don’t know what you’ve got ’til it’s gone/Joni Mitchell never lies.” The performance concluded with a blues-inspired jam session by the Haim sisters.
