Hala Rides Surge in Dubai Amidst Competition

⁢ ⁣ ⁤Updated June 09,‍ 2025

Dubai’s Hala, a digitized taxi service, has seen substantial growth despite increased⁢ competition from ride-hailing services ⁢like Yango and‍ Bolt.According to CEO Khaled Nuseibeh, the ⁤company experienced a 21% year-on-year increase in its customer base and a 17% rise in trips. This growth‍ underscores Hala’s success in the competitive Dubai market.

Nuseibeh emphasized the importance of ‌competition, stating it “forces players to come up with different ways⁤ to raise the bar and innovate.” Hala, launched in 2019, aimed to modernize taxi booking in‌ Dubai, offering an choice to hailing taxis or ⁤calling a booking service. The company also reported an⁤ 11% improvement in reliability, a key⁤ factor in its continued success.

Hala has also introduced electric vehicles in ‌high-demand areas, ⁤such as Dubai Marina and Palm Jumeirah,⁢ at no extra ⁢cost to riders. This initiative has resulted in a critically important reduction in carbon emissions, saving nearly 97 ⁤million grams of ⁤CO2, equivalent to a car driving ‌approximately 293,000 kilometers. Nuseibeh noted that customer response to the EV rollout has been positive.

To further enhance customer experience, Hala has implemented new technologies, including WhatsApp booking. this feature targets tourists who may not have the⁣ Careem app installed, providing a convenient way to book a ride. Nuseibeh explained that this offers tourists “an easier way ⁤to book if they don’t have the Careem map.”

“it’s beautiful ⁤when you’re ‍growing, and your customers⁢ are happy, and you’re also improving on your reliability,” Nuseibeh said.

Looking ahead,Hala plans to support the Roads and Transport Authority’s (RTA) ‌commitment⁣ to making 100% of its vehicles‍ eco-friendly by 2027. When asked about future technologies like flying or autonomous taxis, Nuseibeh said Hala would align with the RTA’s regulations, ensuring that any new technology ⁣is ‌safe, efficient, and meets customer needs. He suggested that autonomous vehicles could eventually operate alongside human drivers during a transition period.

What’s next

Hala will continue to focus on innovation and sustainability, supporting Dubai’s vision for‌ eco-friendly transportation while ⁤exploring new technologies to enhance customer experience and maintain its competitive ‌edge in the ride-hailing ‌market.
