Is Tyrese Haliburton Having the Greatest Clutch Playoff Run Ever?
Updated June 06, 2025
tyrese Haliburton’s recent heroics have sparked a debate: Is he having the most impactful clutch playoff run in NBA history? As the 1996-97 season, when the NBA began tracking play-by-play data, no player has matched Haliburton’s late-game dominance this postseason.
Haliburton has made a shot to either tie or take the lead in the final three seconds of regulation or overtime in each of the four playoff rounds. He sank such shots against the Milwaukee Bucks, Cleveland Cavaliers, and New York Knicks. Before 2025, no player had more than four such shots in a single postseason.
According to Inpredictable,Haliburton’s clutch performances have added an estimated 2.48 wins for the Indiana Pacers this postseason, measured by clutch win probability added. That is the highest such value as the 1996-97 season. LeBron James held the prior high mark at 1.86 wins in 2013.
Statistician Micah Adams noted the Pacers’ improbable odds in the four games where Haliburton hit these shots. The Pacers’ win probability ranged from a low of 0.3% to just 3% at their nadir in those contests. The odds of winning all four games, given those probabilities, were roughly one in 75 million.
