Halle Berry: Newsom Silent After Menopause Bill Dispute

Halle Berry Criticizes Gavin Newsom, Claims Promised ‘Reconciliation’ Never Materialized

– Actress Halle Berry has renewed her public criticism of California Governor Gavin Newsom, asserting that he failed to follow through on a commitment to discuss their differences following his veto of legislation aimed at expanding menopause care access in the state. Berry initially voiced her concerns in December, and has now stated she has not heard from Newsom or his administration despite his public statements.

The dispute centers on the Menopause Care Equity Act, which Newsom vetoed for the second consecutive year. Berry publicly challenged Newsom at the New York Times DealBook Summit, stating, “Back in my great state of California, my very own governor, Gavin Newsom, has vetoed our menopause bill, not one, but two years in a row.” She continued, suggesting his actions demonstrated a disregard for women’s health and questioned his suitability for a potential presidential run. “The way he has overlooked women, half the population, by devaluing us, he probably should not be our next president either. Just saying.”

Following Berry’s remarks, Newsom reportedly claimed that his administration was already “in the process of fixing it” by including the issue in the state’s proposed 2026-2027 budget. However, in a recent interview with The Cut, Berry stated she had received no direct communication from the governor’s office regarding this proposal. “It’s disturbing when people say they’re going to do things and then they don’t,” Berry told the publication. “But he heard what I said. If he is going to run to be our next president, he can’t sleep on women. Wake up, Gavin.”

Berry’s criticism extends beyond the initial veto. She expressed her dismay that Newsom did not attempt to “reconcile” their differences after publicly suggesting he would. According to Berry, Newsom’s failure to reach out is “disturbing.”

The actress’s concerns resonate with a broader conversation about women’s health and the need for increased access to menopause care. Berry’s outspokenness has brought renewed attention to the issue and placed pressure on Newsom to address the concerns raised by her and other advocates.

A spokesperson for Newsom provided Fox News Digital with a draft bill for menopause care legislation in response to Berry’s criticism, but Berry maintains that a bill alone isn’t enough without genuine engagement and a commitment to addressing the needs of women experiencing menopause.

Berry’s initial comments at the Dealbook Summit drew significant attention, with some observers noting her unusually direct language. She reportedly stated she had “zero f—- left to give” before calling out Newsom by name. This level of candor underscores the depth of her frustration with the governor’s actions.

The situation highlights the growing political importance of women’s health issues and the potential for celebrities to leverage their platforms to advocate for policy changes. As Newsom considers a potential run for the presidency, Berry’s continued criticism serves as a reminder of the importance of addressing the concerns of female voters.
