Horror Movie Monsters: ranking the Scariest, Most Creative and Unforgettable
Updated October 31, 2015
with Halloween approaching, it’s time to delve into the world of horror movie monsters. But who reigns supreme?
This isn’t about garden-variety villains; we’re talking about actual monsters—undead demons, creatures from
another dimension, or beings with superhuman abilities. Sorry, Hannibal Lecter, you don’t make the cut.
However, exceptions are made for Michael Myers and Leatherface.
To determine the greatest horror movie monster, certain ground rules apply. No real animals, no benevolent
beasts, no temporary transformations, and no classic monsters like dracula or Frankenstein. With those
stipulations in place, let’s hand out some awards.
Best Outfit
Monsters and fashion might seem like an odd pairing. However, some monsters understand the importance of
appearance, especially when trying to lure unsuspecting prey. The Mimic, from the film of the same name, takes
the prize. These giant cockroaches disguise themselves as creepy figures in raincoats to blend in with humans.Simultaneously occurring, Nomak from Blade II sports a stylish and layered look, complete with a scarf.

Most Creative Kill
When it comes to creative kills, the movie Cube stands out.In this 1997 film, a group of people find
themselves trapped in a Rubik’s Cube-like prison filled with deadly traps. One memorable scene involves a
character being sliced into cheese squares. Though, the electric-chair-lift kill in Gremlins is also a
strong contender. The Gremlins break into mrs.Deagle’s home, sabotage her motorized lift chair, and launch her
out of a window.
Hardest to Vanquish
Some monsters are simply impractical to defeat. The sex parasites from David Cronenberg’s 1975 film, Shivers,
fall into this category. These sexually transmitted blood parasites are virtually unvanquishable, making them
the ultimate horror movie menace.
Best One-Liner
Freddy Krueger is the undisputed king of horror movie one-liners. With classics like “welcome to prime time,
bitch,” Freddy’s quips are as memorable as his razor-glove. In contrast, Godzilla’s best one-liner is
”EeeEEeeeeaaAnghhhhhEeeeeAgnnnnhhhhkkkkkkkkKKK.”
