Hamas Ready for Ceasefire Agreement in Gaza Following Lebanon Truce
Gaza City – Hamas announced its readiness to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip. This comes after a successful ceasefire deal between Israel and Hezbollah in Lebanon. Hamas praised the ceasefire in Lebanon.
In a statement on November 27, 2024, Hamas, which controls Gaza, revealed that it has communicated its willingness to mediators for the ceasefire agreement. A senior Hamas official stated, “We have informed mediators in Egypt, Qatar, and Turkey that Hamas is ready for a ceasefire agreement and a serious deal for prisoner exchange,” speaking to AFP.
The official accused Israel of obstructing the ceasefire agreement in Gaza. Officials from the United States and Israel expressed hope that the ceasefire in Lebanon might lead Hamas to seek peace, as a decrease in Hezbollah’s military support could impact Hamas.
Hamas has long expressed its desire for a ceasefire in Gaza. However, according to Tel Aviv, the group is reluctant to meet Israel’s demands regarding the release of hostages. International mediators indicated that Israel’s unwillingness to withdraw its forces from Gaza also hinders negotiations. They stated that both sides share responsibility for the current deadlock.
