French Left Leaders Unite Over Gaza Genocide Accusation

Leaders from several French left-wing parties gathered in Paris on Monday to condemn what they described as a “genocide” in Gaza.The meeting, which notably excluded representatives from La France Insoumise (LFI), saw strong words leveled against Israel’s actions.
Olivier Faure, head of the Socialist Party, directly accused the government of Benjamin Netanyahu of committing genocide. Speaking to hundreds of supporters at the Trocadéro, Faure stated that the term was justified due to the intentionality demonstrated by Israeli government officials. “The members of the Israeli government are multiplying declarations in this sense… This policy is sadly thought out, planned, and even claimed,” Faure said.
Fabien Roussel, leader of the French Communist Party and organizer of the rally, echoed Faure’s sentiments. Roussel decried what he called the “ethnic cleansing in Gaza and the genocide of the Palestinian people.” He also criticized France’s lack of recognition of a Palestinian state, calling it “a disgrace to the diplomatic history of our country.” Roussel urged President Emmanuel Macron to visit Gaza, similar to his visit to Kyiv.
Marine Tondelier of the Ecologists party emphasized the broader implications of the situation in Gaza. “What is being played out in Gaza is the image that humanity has of itself,” Tondelier said.
