Hamilton‌ Voices Support for Vasseur Amid Ferrari F1 Team Principal Pressure

Updated June 13, 2025

Montreal—Lewis⁣ Hamilton has‍ publicly backed Ferrari team principal Fred Vasseur, dismissing reports that the team is considering replacing‍ him. Hamilton emphasized that Vasseur is “the person to take us to the top,” despite recent speculation ⁣about his⁢ future with the team.

Reports in the Italian media ‍suggested vasseur’s start to 2025 has been “unsatisfactory,” leading to rumors of a ‌potential replacement. Antonello Coletta, known ⁣for his success with Ferrari’s endurance team, was mentioned as a possible candidate.

A Ferrari spokesperson declined ⁤to comment on⁤ the reports.Hamilton, who joined⁢ Ferrari from Mercedes, has previously highlighted Vasseur’s role in his decision to join the team. Speaking ahead of the Canadian Grand Prix, Hamilton voiced his strong support for the under-pressure team boss.

Hamilton stated ⁣that hearing⁢ such stories‍ is “definitely not nice.” He added, “Firstly, I⁢ love working with Fred. Fred is the main reason I’m in this team… We’re in this together, working hard in the background.‍ Things aren’t perfect, but I’m here to work with the team and with Fred. I want Fred here.”

“I do believe Fred⁢ is the person to take us to the top. And‌ so that’s that. So it’s all, ⁤it’s ultimately, it’s nonsense what people have written. ‌Most people don’t know what’s going on in the background. And, and it isn’t all easy,” Hamilton said.

Hamilton dismissed the⁤ possibility of Vasseur’s exit, saying, “I don’t think that’s ⁣on ⁢the cards, as far as I’m ‍aware. That’s certainly not something that⁤ I woudl be supportive of.I’m here ⁤to win with Fred. he has my full support.”

Despite a sprint race victory in China, Hamilton⁤ is still seeking his first podium finish since joining‌ Ferrari. He recently described the Spanish Grand Prix as his “worst race” but used the‍ opportunity ‌to refute claims about his lack ⁤of motivation.

Hamilton affirmed his commitment to Ferrari, stating,”I’ve literally only just‌ started with Ferrari, and⁣ I’m here for several years. I’m⁢ here for the long ‍haul. So there is no question in where my head’s at and what I’m working towards achieving at this team. So, there’s zero doubts.”

Ferrari entered 2025⁤ with high expectations following Hamilton’s arrival and a strong finish to the previous season. Vasseur, who took ⁢over from Mattia Binotto in 2023, has been credited with bringing‌ stability to the team.

However, the Italian media has intensified its scrutiny, reflecting the ⁣immense pressure surrounding Ferrari.Reports about vasseur’s ⁢future have gained traction, with Red Bull boss Christian Horner recently‍ denying rumors that ferrari chairman ‍John Elkann⁤ approached him about replacing vasseur.

Horner emphasized his commitment to Red Bull, stating, “Look, of course, it’s always flattering to be associated with other teams, but my commitment is 100% with ⁣Red Bull.⁢ It always has been and certainly will be ‍for the long‍ term.”
