Cristina Negu, a four-time world’s best handball player and Romania’s finest, has announced her decision to retire from the sport at the end of the current competitive season.
Negu’s dream of competing in the Olympics with the Romanian national team was shattered when the team failed to qualify for the pre-Olympic tournament. This setback led to her decision to retire from the national team, and now she has announced her retirement from the sport.
After an impressive 25-year career in handball, Negu will conclude her adventure in the sport next summer. She made this announcement in a recent TV news PRO interview.
“I have an important message for handball lovers and especially for the people who have supported and followed me throughout my career. I decided that I will retire from the handball activity at the end of this season, I decided this for some time, it was not overnight, I thought about the right time, but it never is.”
“I have decided that this will be my last season on the handball court. I don’t know if there’s only one reason, I think this moment comes in any athlete’s career, but I don’t want it to be sad news, but let’s all rejoice.”
A Nationwide Caravan to Celebrate Her Career
Negu plans to organize a caravan across the country until the end of the season, allowing handball enthusiasts to see her play one last time.
“I want to do something special this season. Caravan. He will go with me everywhere in the cities of the country. We will have a special space where I will meet the fans after the games, if they want to see me play for the last time in their city, come along, take pictures, get autographs! I have 25 years of career and 20 at the highest level, I have experienced many wonderful moments.”
