Norwegian Interest Rate Cut in Doubt as Economy Surprises
economic Growth Defies Expectations
A widely anticipated interest rate cut in September, which would have marked the second cut this year, is now facing uncertainty following unexpectedly strong economic data released by Statistics Norway on Thursday. The figures reveal that Norway’s economic growth has been double what was previously forecast.
Even when excluding typically volatile sectors like power supply, fishing, and aquaculture, growth remains robust, registering 0.9% in the second quarter and 1.0% in the first. Macroeconomist Karine alson Nelson of Handelsbanken noted that this growth indicates a stronger underlying economic momentum than Norges Bank had anticipated.
