The involuntary manslaughter charge against Alec Baldwin, who held the prop gun that discharged, was dismissed last July due to errors by police and prosecutors. Baldwin maintained he did not pull the trigger and that others were responsible for weapon safety.
Prosecutors argued during Gutierrez-Reed’s trial that she negligently brought live ammunition onto the “Rust” set and failed to adhere to basic gun safety protocols. The 18-month sentence was the maximum possible for the charge of involuntary manslaughter.
The movie “Rust” has since been completed and released, excluding the scene being rehearsed at the time of the shooting, according to director Joel Souza.
